Draft, Final Technical Regulations, Standards Issued by Mexico - Mar. 1-31, 2006

The government of Mexico issued draft and final technical regulations and standards in March, addressing fishing resources, electric installations, handicap accessibility safety, lifesaving, ecotourism, construction industry concrete and other topics. The information was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on its U.S. Commercial Service web site.

Goods and products imported into Mexico must comply with applicable technical regulations and labeling requirements, which are listed by harmonized tariff system (HS or HTS) code and published in the Diario Oficial de la Federacion (Official Gazette). A technical regulation is published as a Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM); a draft technical regulation is published as a Proyecto de Norma Oficial Mexicana (NMX).

The minimum comment period for NMXs is 60 days, during which the public, businesses or interested parties may submit comments, in Spanish, by the closing date listed in the Proyecto. Responses to comments, which are published in the Diaro Oficial, indicate that the final standard will be published soon.
